Review: Urban Decay 24/7 Velvet Glide-On Eye Pencil in Black Velvet

I love nothing better than a good GWP. I got Sephora's Bright Night Out gift bag with a Christmas order and it included this product in a deluxe sample size- Urban Decay's 24/7 Velvet eyeliner in Black Velvet. I don't like black eyeliner, so I tried this once, it transferred to my browbone, then I didn't touch it for a month or two. Recently I switched it into my Project Finish-it list, mostly because it's one of the few deluxe samples I own.

This sample is well-circulated- it was included in an Ipsy bag and some other subscription services.

This is the first Urban Decay eyeliner I've owned, and the second black eyeliner. I don't generally like black eyeliner, and I had to get my sister to show me how to smudge it into my lashline. I've been using it almost every day since.

It's a kind of charcoal colour. It looks more black on the eye than in the swatch.

The deal about this eyeliner is that it's supposed to facilitate smokey looks. In my swatch picture, the top line is just a regular swatch; the second line is what it looks like when you smudge it immediately (like 1 second) after application; and the third line is what it looks like when you try to smudge it after it sets (about 4 seconds). It doesn't look like a very good eyeliner at all!

That being said, I've had great success with this eyeliner. It can create crisp looks when properly sharpened, and when smudged into my top lashline it adds a very nice dimension to the eye. To stop it from transferring onto my hooded eyelids, I have to use powder eyeshadow, and that usually stops it from transferring.

It lasts all day on the lid and about 5 hours on the lower waterline. I can see this being a very good eyeliner to tightline with.

There's a few looks I've done with this eyeliner.

I'm satisfied with this product, but that being said, I don't love it enough to purchase the full size! I am interested in checking out the other shades of the 24/7 Velvet line, though, and the 24/7 eyeliners in general. I'm sure this will become a staple in my look as I do project finish-it, and I look forward to using it up. It's a great product if you love black eyeliner, but I won't miss this when it's gone!
