Nails of the Day: Rose Quartz and Serenity with Revlon!

Image
I don't often post nails on my blog, because I have dermotillomania (which makes me pick at my hands terribly. Not conducive for nail shots). But my roommate has beautiful nails and offered to let me use her as a hand model for a Rose Quartz and Serenity-themed nail of the day! The star of this show is Revlon. We used one of their regular polishes in Irresistible, a beautiful Serenity shade, and one of the Parfumerie Polishes in Pink Pineapple. 'Irresistible' was used as an accent nail with Pink Pineapple for the rest of the nails. This is two coats of each. She also surprised me by applying a Revlon holo-flakies top coat overtop of Irresistable, and I think it looks gorgeous! Let me know if you'd like to see more of my roommate's nails on my blog! She's great at nail art too!

Nail of the Day: Plummy Iridescent

Image
The CBB's theme for the month of September is Plum, so I've prepared a few plummy posts just in time for the month to end (whoops)! The first are these nails. I'll have to admit, they're not extremely plummy, but I felt like experimenting with neutrals and rich tones. I used Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Greige, and Zoya Margot for my plum(ish) accent nail. Then I applied this Revlon Iridescent top coat to the nails painted with Greige. It has little purple iridescent shimmers in a pearly glaze. I finished the whole thing off with the Pro-FX Quick Dry High Gloss Top Coat. How did it turn out? I'd say pretty well! Not the most thought-out colour pairing, but I like the way the iridescent topcoat looks over Greige. Shiiiiny. Well? What do you think? What's your favourite plum nail polish?

My Top 5 Summer Nail Polishes Under 5 Dollars

Image
After years of thinking I was an autumn person, or a spring person, I have determined that I am definitely a summer person. Eating whenever I feel like it... forgetting what day of the week it is... and being able to paint my nails and having time for them to dry! Here's my top five picks for summer nails under five dollars. For summer, I'm a big fan of solid colours. I find that a solid creme in a bright primary or secondary colour can complement a tank and a pair of jean shorts like no nail art could dream of.  First up is Joe Fresh Tomato, a bright true balanced red. Then this one- my personal favourite- Rimmel London 60 Seconds polish in Blue My Mind, a fun light blue creme. It does chip like a bugger though. Revlon Parfumerie's Sunlit Grass, a bright sunshine yellow creme, is a staple for me in the warmer months. Sinful Colors' Exotic Green is one I thought I wouldn't like, but I find it really different. You don't often...

Neon Lasers Nail Art

Image
Whoa, a nail art post?! I was inspired by the CBB's theme of the month, which is neon! I was inspired by a rave show. I used some neon Stripe Rite stripers from Sally Beauty Supply to create 'lasers' over a sky blue Sally Hansen Insta-Dri polish. And there's some shots over my galaxy-print leggings to add to the theme.  Well, I hope you liked my first and probably only nail art post on this blog!

Guest Post: Orange Garden!

Image
Hello readers of The Makeup Monologues! I'm Chantal from Chantal's Corner and I'm excited to be a guest for Megan today as part of the Canadian Beauty Bloggers ' monthly guest posts! Our theme this month is orange and I really wanted to do a makeup look for you, but things don't always work out as planned - especially with a baby! So I went with nail art. I know Megan does not do nail posts so I hope you don't mind the change is subject. For my nail art I was inspired by the famous saying April Showers Bring May Flowers , so here are my orange May flowers. For this nail art I used the following products: Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear "White On" x 2 coats as base colour Sinful Colours "Pull Over" essence sun kissed "hello summer!" Nailtini "Mai Tai" essence "the green & the grunge" butter LONDON Matte Finish Topcoat Pure Color n° 10 nail art brush I used a foil paper to mix the colours tog...

Guest Post: Pastel Polishes from Trysh!

Image
Hi guys! This is Trysh from Prairie Beauty Love and I'm really excited to guest post here about my favorite spring pastel nail polishes as a part of the Canadian Beauty Bloggers Network! For me, one of the most exciting parts of spring is that I can shop my own collection for products that have been shelved over the winter, particularly all of those colourful nail polish shades that I always tuck away when the weather gets cold. Since the theme this month is all about pastels, I decided I would shop my own collection and show you guys some of my favorite pastels that I can't wait to bust out this spring. RIMMEL London 60 Seconds Nail Polish in I Lilac You The RIMMEL 60 Second polishes are some of my favorites at the drugstore and this has been the spring/summer standout of that line for me. This is just a really classic lilac créme shade that is opaque in 2 coats and dries incredibly quickly. PURE ICE Nail Polish in Bikini PURE ICE tends to really ...

Today's Nails

Image
Cheer up, all, it's Friday! I've had a crappy day so far and the only things keeping me going have been my fingernails- they're so pretty and glittery! This polish was a pain because the glitter one never dried, even after two hours! I had to put a topcoat on it, which I normally never do!  I used Revlon Parfumerie Lime Basil and then a Cirque colours holo glitter polish that my sister got in an Ipsy bag.  Here's your sign to keep your head up, if you've been looking for one! Have a good Friday!
