The Makeup Monologues

This month's theme for the CBB is "Cozy Comforts." I'll be honest, I didn't know what the heck I was supposed to do with that theme when I first saw it. An eye look inspired by tomato soup...? However, I brainstormed a bunch of random things, and I'm gonna run with 'em. Hopefully they connect enough to the theme that the mods don't kick me out of the linkup. When I think of "cozy" eye looks, I think of peach, rose gold, and copper- but two shadows came to mind specifically. Those shadows are both by Colourpop cosmetics- two of their Super Shock Shadows (a measly $5 USD each), in the shades I <3 This and Game Face. They scream cozy and warm, yet still intense, which is what I like. I <3 This is a champagne with a pink sheen and silver glitter. It's a little gritty but gorgeous nonetheless. Lipstick can become an expensive habit, and today I'll be reviewing what is the single most expensive lipstick I own. I don't know what possessed me to buy it this past March break, and I don't even wear it as often as I should. That lipstick is the Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick in Raven. It was 33 dollars Canadian, and I am out of my mind. I bought it mostly because the shade was gorgeous and liquid lipsticks were just starting to gain hype. I saw a fellow blogger posting about it and went “OMG. MUST. HAVE.” The applicator pisses me off- it's a doe-foot applicator that is flat on both sides (no slanted edge) and a rounded top. What rustles my jimmies about it is that it's flexible. It bends, which makes it so hard to apply. Not enough product is distributed on the applicator in one pump, so you do have to apply pressure to the lips in order to get the product on them. Here's the first segment of the Lipstick Stash & Swatch Series! First up is the smallest set as I get used to doing tons of lip swatches at the same time. What I've discovered so far about multiple lip swatches: -They suck. -You will have a clown stain around your lip line. -Your lips will cramp and your neck will crick from posing. -All of your concealer from your mouth and chin area will be wiped off. If you often get mouth and chin blemishes like I do, this will be a nightmare. What have I gotten myself into?! Well... without further ado, here we go with the lipsticks. Today I'm reviewing a product whose hype train used to plunge full steam ahead, bells and whistles clanging rigorously, but has since been retired to a few cargo-bearing trips a season. That product? Why, it's Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar, of course! This one, Annika, is a mini size- what OCC cleverly calls a "test tube". I have a whole whack of these- 15 different shades, actually- from taking advantage of the Sephora sale section. They are mixable liquid lipsticks that are fairly genius- the theory is that by buying only a few shades of Lip Tar, you could conceivably mix up any colour in or out of the rainbow. I'll be reviewing all my shades for what they are, of course, but I may make a post or two showing off the combinations I've experimented with. Hey folks! I'm going to be starting a series (and hopefully keeping up with it) where I post a lip swatch+mini review each Friday. I had a sample of UD's Sheer Ladyflower so that's today's! Here's a swatch of two swipes. It's very creamy but sheer, like a tinted lip balm.  It feels good on and gives my lips a rush of subtle colour. It's very glossy!  Hope you enjoyed the swatch!

At this point I should just crown myself princess of being late to the party when it comes to reviewing products. However, I have a bit of an excuse today- MAC is the CBB's brand of the month for May, so I'm reviewing the only MAC product I own that was purchased in the last 15 years, the Viva Glam Miley Cyrus lipstick. The coveted MAC bullet. Also my nails. Ta-daaa. When I saw this colour, I knew I had to have it, because it looked like a colour-dupe for the most flattering lip gloss I ever owned. The lipgloss suffered a tragic death and I had been on the hunt for a replacement. Plus, all the proceeds of the Viva Glam campaign go to finding a cure for AIDS, which is a monumental cause.  The packaging features Miley's signature.  The lipstick is a hot candy pink, not quite magenta. It's adorable and I love it. It has MAC's signature vanilla scent. The formula is very creamy and opaque, a bit glossier than your average satin. It wears...

I'm always on the hunt for a good concealer. Right now I'm limited to drugstore options, as I don't trust colour-matching online, so I tend to pick up the lightest shade of whatever new drugstore release there is and hope for the best. Sometimes I have relative success, sometimes not so much. I saw this tube of Maybelline's new Master Conceal and quickly grabbed the lightest shade, chucking it into my bag after I'd bought it to try out later and inevitably toss into concealer-purgatory with the rest of the drugstore disappointments. The concealer is packaged in a squeeze-tube with a pointed nozzle, which is my favourite kind of concealer applicator (if anyone can even have such a thing)- no crusty doe-foots for this gal!
