The Makeup Monologues

People seem to really like my Eurovision-inspired looks, so here's another batch! Austria 2016: Loin D'ici by Zoe This is one of my favourite songs from this year's selection, which has a lot to do with the aesthetic that both the song and the video evoke. It reminds me of fairy princesses! For this look, I used mostly my Urban Decay Electric palette- Savage and Jilted in the crease, Urban on the outer corner and Revolt on the lid. I then used Colourpop's Piggy Bank Creme Gel liner for my wing and waterline. I used a very bubblegum-pink blush- essence Pinky Flow- and a combination of OCC lip tars in Iced (frosty white), Hoochie (magenta purple) and NSFW (true red) on the lips. Two FOTDs in a row?! I'm sorry, guys, you'll be sick of my face before the week is done. It's not St. Patty's day yet, but this post is more to inspire some of you who want to do something festive with your makeup, but just don't know what! This look was not only super fun to do, but easy as pie too. It focuses on the eyes and highlight. Let's get into it! I'm incredibly pleased with how the eyes turned out! Here's what I used: After buffing a small amount of Makeup Geek's Peach Smoothie into my crease, I took a large fluffy brush and lightly built up Vinyl, a lime green, from the Kat Von D Mi Vida Loca Remix palette. I then took a smaller, denser blending brush and packed Misfit, the true green in the palette, into my crease. I blended it out with a bit of Vinyl and Peach Smoothie. I'm always excited for Pantone's Colour of the Year- and for the year of 2016, they chose two! Those colours are Rose Quartz, a light baby pink, and Serenity, a baby blue. The colours have received a fair amount of backlash from the makeup community, because pastel makeup isn't considered very wearable, and on the technical side, most pastel makeup on the market (especially matte makeup, as is the trend of the mo') is low-performing. However, I love the colours- they remind me of the Transgender Pride Flag- so I figured I'd take a crack at making these colours flattering and wearable! These products are the stars of the show!  First, the eyes. I'm using the Illamasqua shadow single in Creep as my Serenity colour in this look. When I think of cozy colours, I tend to think of warm reds, peaches and browns. So I went through my collection and cobbled together some sort of non-complicated FOTD plan. Here are the main players in this simple look! First, the NARS eyeshadow duo in Madrague. The two shadows look similar in the pan- certainly too similar to be an effective duo. However, on the skin they're distinctly different. The left shade is a warm, yellow-toned beige and the right is a red-toned light brown. For blush, essence Autumn Peach, a light but highly pigmented peachy blush with a beautiful golden sheen. And on the lips, Revlon Super Lustrous lipstick in Toast of New York. The title of this post should really be "blatant narcissism". It's a blow-by-blow of one of my favourite looks I've ever done. It wasn't an easy look to do, but it came out swimmingly and I'd love to show it off to all of you.  Here are all of the products I used! Bam, quite a lot. The base: first I applied Too Faced's Primed & Poreless primer to my entire face. Then I used the Wet N Wild Coverall Corrector Wheel- the green on any blemishes or red spots, and the yellow on the dark circles under my eyes. Then I used three different concealers- Maybelline Fit Me as a general all-over, then Hard Candy glamouflage very sparingly under my eyes to brighten them. Finally, I used Maybelline Master Conceal to cover up anything that couldn't be covered completely by the Fit Me. When it comes to Canadian cosmetics, I can be a bit spoiled for choice. Compared to my makeup collection at whole, I guess it doesn't look like much, but it's not much to shake a stick at! I wanted to do a makeup look using only Canadian makeup and realized that while I have lots of Canadian lipstick and blush, I lack Canadian incarnations of eyebrow products, concealer, eyeshadow primer, everyday staples like that. I actually had to run out to the store earlier today upon realizing I didn't have any foundation, powder or concealer that was Canadian- I settled on a loose powder by Joe Fresh then ran back home to do this post.
