Review: Maybelline Brow Drama Pomade Crayon

Image
Hey guys, long time no post! I'm here today to review the new Maybelline Brow Drama Pomade Crayon. This is an interesting product for sure- one of the many new and exciting things Maybelline has put out for us this spring. The crayon is a short, chubby pencil that is supposed to be a brow pomade in crayon form. There are obviously drawbacks to this design- while it's a cool concept, frankly, the thing is huge. Maybelline definitely should have gone with something a lot less thick. I got the shade Dark Brown, I believe. As you can see, while the product is sharp now, it doesn't take much to run it down and I fear for the day this becomes too nubby to use (I've been using it on an angle so far). The formula, however, is pretty gorgeous. It's soft and emollient, but amazingly pigmented. It gives a soft effect rather than a harsh line. Here are my brows with no product in them. And here is the Maybelline Brow Drama Pomade Crayon applied to them. I ...

Review: GOSH Defining Brow Gel in 003

Image
You can do so many things with your brows- there are powders, mousses, waxes, mascaras and gels to tint them, fill in gaps and hold the hairs in place. Around the start of the new year I decided to try a tinted brow gel, and chose GOSH's Defining Brow Gel in 003. 003 is a translucent, very wet dark brown gel. Its consistency is kind of slippery. It's nothing like Benefit's Gimme Brow- it doesn't coat the hairs in colour so much as the colour sits on top. It has a traditional mascara-y type wand. It keeps my brow hairs in place, and I use it in a pinch (like on the weekends when I have to run out the door) but I find it can't be used on its own. I have to mash the brush onto my face to get any sort of colour, and it doesn't do anything to fill in my gaps. So, I usually use this on top of my brow powder. This product is kind of a fail for me, because it didn't do what I wanted it to do- colour and save me a step in my routine. Instead, it's just...

Review: Femme Couture Perfect Arch Soft Powder Brow Pencil in Dark Brown

Image
I've been filling my sparse brows in with the same powder ever since I started applying makeup; however, I've recently felt as if I was missing out on all the other possible ways to tame my unruly brows. So, naturally, I went shopping. I ended up picking up the Femme Couture Perfect Arch soft powder brow pencil. It's definitely what it says it is- a powder pencil. I was greatly intrigued because I thought this would be the perfect way to cut down on the products I bring to school for touch-ups, while still achieving the same effect as my beloved brow powder and angled brush. It swatches perfectly- soft, powdery, goes on like nothing. It's a cool-toned medium brown, not waxy at all. It is truly a powder pencil. However, I have a problem when it comes to application- my eyebrow hair is so thick that it's hard to get this pencil under them to fill in the gaps without whacking all the hairs the wrong way. Plus the skin under my brows is really super dry, so ...

The Brow Tag

My eyebrows were the first makeup I learned how to do and honestly I think it’s what makes me look the most different. I can’t go out without doing my brows. So here’s how I do them!   Here’s my naked brow in all of its glory.   Here are the products I use- a spoolie, a brown kohl pencil, ardell brow powder, an angled eyeliner brush, and a GOSH tinted brow gel.  First I brush my brows into place with the spoolie.  Then, I outline the general shape I want with the kohl.   Next, I fill them in with the powder and brush.   Finally, I use the gel to make sure they stay in place!   Here is what I look like with only one brow done. See the difference it makes?
