Guest Post: Orange Garden!

Hello readers of The Makeup Monologues!

I'm Chantal from Chantal's Corner and I'm excited to be a guest for Megan today as part of the Canadian Beauty Bloggers' monthly guest posts! Our theme this month is orange and I really wanted to do a makeup look for you, but things don't always work out as planned - especially with a baby! So I went with nail art. I know Megan does not do nail posts so I hope you don't mind the change is subject.

For my nail art I was inspired by the famous saying April Showers Bring May Flowers, so here are my orange May flowers.


For this nail art I used the following products:



I used a foil paper to mix the colours together: the middle of all the flowers is Pull Over with a tint of hello summer!, then I added some hello summer! around that, and the outside of the big flower is hello summer! mixed with Mai Tai. For the centres I just used Mai Tai. For the leaves of the mini flowers I mixed White On with a teeny bit of the green & the grunge. The stem and leaf on the big flower is just the green & the grunge, with a little line of the pale green in the middle of the leaf.

I then finished it off with some butter LONDON Matte Finish Topcoat, but unfortunately it made the colours bleed onto the white. :-( I hate it when a topcoat does that.


My light box tends to wash out my nail art, especially when it has a white base, and I have not really worked at fixing that yet, so here is a picture taken with my phone in natural daylight so you can see how the colours pop in real life.


Bleeding aside, I'm really happy with how these turned out! I don't tend to freehand all that often because I'm not good at drawing, but I figured flowers don't need to be perfect so I should be able to do something decent. :-)

Review: L'Oreal Infallible Silkissime Eyeliner in Cobalt Blue

It's always exciting when you've been waiting and waiting for something to go on sale and then it finally does. I picked up this L'Oreal Silkissime eyeliner in Cobalt Blue at Target, having wanted it ever since I read Temptalia's review. Standard pencil eyeliner, nice packaging, though the cap looks liable, like others, to crack or come off if subjected to a bit of wear and tear. Cobalt Blue is, well, a cobalt blue. It's pretty straightforward, and opaque in one smooth stroke. It feels very... liquidy. Wet, and gel-like. It sets in a matter of half a minute, but is not completely transferproof.  Its smooth, soft consistency makes it a bit difficult to create a bold line unless the pencil is very sharp. This is simply the liner on bare eyelids; no primer. You can see that on my left (your right) lid, the liner has smudged and transferred onto the top of my eyelid- this happened about ten minutes after application. This problem can be avoided...

Review: Maybelline Brow Drama Pomade Crayon

Hey guys, long time no post! I'm here today to review the new Maybelline Brow Drama Pomade Crayon. This is an interesting product for sure- one of the many new and exciting things Maybelline has put out for us this spring. The crayon is a short, chubby pencil that is supposed to be a brow pomade in crayon form. There are obviously drawbacks to this design- while it's a cool concept, frankly, the thing is huge. Maybelline definitely should have gone with something a lot less thick. I got the shade Dark Brown, I believe. As you can see, while the product is sharp now, it doesn't take much to run it down and I fear for the day this becomes too nubby to use (I've been using it on an angle so far). The formula, however, is pretty gorgeous. It's soft and emollient, but amazingly pigmented. It gives a soft effect rather than a harsh line. Here are my brows with no product in them.
