Review: Maybelline Brow Drama Pomade Crayon

Hey guys, long time no post! I'm here today to review the new Maybelline Brow Drama Pomade Crayon. This is an interesting product for sure- one of the many new and exciting things Maybelline has put out for us this spring.

The crayon is a short, chubby pencil that is supposed to be a brow pomade in crayon form. There are obviously drawbacks to this design- while it's a cool concept, frankly, the thing is huge. Maybelline definitely should have gone with something a lot less thick.

I got the shade Dark Brown, I believe. As you can see, while the product is sharp now, it doesn't take much to run it down and I fear for the day this becomes too nubby to use (I've been using it on an angle so far).

The formula, however, is pretty gorgeous. It's soft and emollient, but amazingly pigmented. It gives a soft effect rather than a harsh line.

Here are my brows with no product in them.

And here is the Maybelline Brow Drama Pomade Crayon applied to them.

I really love how easy this product is for low makeup days- usually, I need a brow pencil and a gel to look normal, but this actually holds my hairs in place while filling in all my gaps. Still, I don't know if I'd recommend this product- it's kind of expensive for the drugstore (I picked mine up across the border for around 9 USD), doesn't hold a lot of product, and isn't very practical in the long run. I definitely have other drugstore brow products that I prefer.

If you're a beginner, I don't know if I would use this product either, as it's easy to accidentally end up with Sharpie brows with such a thick-tipped product.

So, long story short, it's a good product, but at what cost? It's a mixed bag, for sure. I suppose it really boils down to personal preference, whether someone will like this product or hate it, but I've already heard lots of complaints about this product. My guess is it might not stick around for long at all.

Still, kudos to Maybelline for taking a risk and trying new things- even if it doesn't always work out.

  1. This is on my list to try, I guess I just assumed they would have made it self sharpening but I guess not

    1. It would have been so much nicer if it had self-sharpened! I don't know what they expect me to do.

  3. I like the idea of this, and the formula does sound good, but the size of the product itself is going to be totally useless. I mean, that's massive for a brow product!

  4. I like the idea of this product, but I also worry about how thick it is...its massive!

  5. Wow, I really like how this looks in my brows! I'm still skeptical given how large the crayon is (and how wimpy my brows are), but I'm curious! :)

    1. I suppose you could always define your brow line and cover up the thickness a bit better if you used concealer around your brow after!

  6. It looks great on you! But you're right, I wonder how one would sharpen this when it gets dull....

    1. I do like how it looks, but you're right! What am I supposed to do, whittle it down with a butterknife?

  7. I like the idea of this! I think I'm going to give it a try. I love trying new brow products!

    1. Go for it! Funny story, my go-to brow pencil broke on me this morning, so I had to go buy a new one on lunch break. I picked up the Milani Easybrow. Hurrah to trying new products!
