The Makeup Monologues

Apart from makeup, my biggest interest is watching the Eurovision Song Contest every year. Eurovision is a contest held in Europe where countries that are part of the European Broadcasting Union send in an original song and act each year, and then they compete. Each country gets to allot points to their top ten acts, and the country with the most points at the end wins! I love Eurovision- I'm part of several fan groups online, and recently, I've been using Eurovision songs to inspire my makeup looks. I actually worked up the courage to post a few looks to the fan groups, and they were met with a lot of praise, as well as requests for more looks inspired by specific songs! Hey, it's been a while since I did a Beauty Wishlist post! Recently, I've noticed myself getting annoyed with my usual primer- it's just not working for me anymore. I've been wishing after a lot of different primers, but these are the ones I am considering purchasing the most! 1. Too Faced Hangover Replenishing Face Primer, $40 CAD This sounds like the primer of my dreams. It's purportedly soothing, smoothing, and moisturizing, and smells like coconuts. It sounds exactly like what I need in the morning to refresh my tired, flaky skin. And I'm bonkers for anything coconut-scented! 2. BECCA Backlight Priming Filter, $46 CAD I don't exactly know why I'm so crazy over this- I think it's because it looks so luxurious, and I love anything that helps me to get my glow on. I'm slightly worried that this might emphasize my pores, though. I really want to get a sample of it to try it out! 3. Laura Mercier Foundation Primer- Hydrating, $43 CAD...

I don't often post nails on my blog, because I have dermotillomania (which makes me pick at my hands terribly. Not conducive for nail shots). But my roommate has beautiful nails and offered to let me use her as a hand model for a Rose Quartz and Serenity-themed nail of the day! The star of this show is Revlon. We used one of their regular polishes in Irresistible, a beautiful Serenity shade, and one of the Parfumerie Polishes in Pink Pineapple. 'Irresistible' was used as an accent nail with Pink Pineapple for the rest of the nails. This is two coats of each. She also surprised me by applying a Revlon holo-flakies top coat overtop of Irresistable, and I think it looks gorgeous! Let me know if you'd like to see more of my roommate's nails on my blog! Two FOTDs in a row?! I'm sorry, guys, you'll be sick of my face before the week is done. It's not St. Patty's day yet, but this post is more to inspire some of you who want to do something festive with your makeup, but just don't know what! This look was not only super fun to do, but easy as pie too. It focuses on the eyes and highlight. Let's get into it! I'm incredibly pleased with how the eyes turned out! Here's what I used: After buffing a small amount of Makeup Geek's Peach Smoothie into my crease, I took a large fluffy brush and lightly built up Vinyl, a lime green, from the Kat Von D Mi Vida Loca Remix palette. I then took a smaller, denser blending brush and packed Misfit, the true green in the palette, into my crease. I blended it out with a bit of Vinyl and Peach Smoothie. I then took the Covergirl Flamed Out Shadow Pencil in 330, a light gold shade, and applied it to my lid a bit messily, just to get a sticky base. This isn...

I'm always excited for Pantone's Colour of the Year- and for the year of 2016, they chose two! Those colours are Rose Quartz, a light baby pink, and Serenity, a baby blue. The colours have received a fair amount of backlash from the makeup community, because pastel makeup isn't considered very wearable, and on the technical side, most pastel makeup on the market (especially matte makeup, as is the trend of the mo') is low-performing. However, I love the colours- they remind me of the Transgender Pride Flag- so I figured I'd take a crack at making these colours flattering and wearable! These products are the stars of the show!  First, the eyes. I'm using the Illamasqua shadow single in Creep as my Serenity colour in this look. February, the shortest month of the year, has almost come to an end, and while I wasn't enamored with too many products this month, I definitely fell hard for a couple. So we've got a blush, an eyeliner, an eyeshadow palette and ... a concealer?! Other than Maybelline Fit Me? This may be interesting. And with the exception of the eyeliner, I bought all of these products this month. I bought the Stila Eyes Are the Window to the Mind eyeshadow palette as a splurge for my birthday, after wanting it for probably a year. I'm so impressed with the quality of this all-matte palette, and now I have no desire to seek out any other matte shadows. These are perfect. The orange shade is my favourite, there are so many beautiful transition shades, the black is such good quality, and that dark plum is such a great, unexpected colour to deepen the outer corner with! The NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipsticks have finally landed in Canada! I picked these two up from Rexall, but I've seen them at Shoppers DrugMart as well. How exciting! I picked up the shades Vintage and the much-coveted Stone Fox. The applicator is a long, tilted doe-foot. It makes it very easy to get a sharp lip line, which I really appreciate. (L-R: Vintage, Stone Fox) Vintage is a dark, rusty cherry red. Stone Fox is a steely blue-grey. Vintage gave me more issues on the wear than Stone Fox did. I found it required two layers to be fully opaque and not patchy, and then it took forever to dry down. I found that it was harder to get a crisp line with this shade due to its lack of opacity. Stone Fox applied creamier than Vintage, and only required one coat. Both lipsticks stayed creamy for a while after application, then set to a consistency that wasn't transferproof but definitely reminiscent of a traditional liquid lipstick.
