Review: Elizabeth Arden Pure Finish Cream Shadow in Overboard

Image
Elizabeth Arden is one of those brands I thought I'd never try until I hit at least 40. But one day at Marshall's, I thought I'd found something for me in the form of a Pure Finish Cream Shadow in Overboard. Blue cream eyeshadow from a high end brand, how could I go wrong? It comes in a tiny plastic pot that actually feels a lot cheaper than the Maybelline color tattoos. The product did have a cool design, but I had to smoosh it down with my finger. It has a bouncy, squishable texture and smells strongly of fermented fruit punch. It's not entirely unpleasant, but it certainly does smell 'off'. Whether that is because I got it from Marshall's, I don't know.  (Top- 1 layer, Middle- 2 layers, Bottom- five layers) The texture once you get it on your finger is very thin. Overboard is a borderline sheer wash of medium blue satin. It took a lot of layers to build up the bottom swatch, which was the closest I could get to opacity.  ...

Snoop my Stash: Skincare!

Image
Hey guys! Today I'll be showing you something you won't often see from me- skincare and body care! Here's my stash. I don't swear by any one product (okay, maybe one), this is just what I'm working through right now. I honestly have awful dry skin and not much tends to make a difference in that. Here I have Aveeno Clear Complexion Cream Cleanser. It's nice, smells good, makes my skin soft. But I can't stand the little microbeads in it. They're so annoying and bad for the environment! A-derma cleansing foaming gel, a sample from Shoppers. And the Body Shop tea trea oil spot treatment. It seems to work better than salicylic acid on me, but it still doesn't do much. An old Mary Kay eye makeup remover that is old as the hills. Seriously, I've been using this one bottle since the seventh grade. I actually love it.  VICHY Micellar water- eh. Part of a gift set. I use it to remove arm swatches because it doesn't do any...

Review: GOSH trio eyeshadow in Limelight

Image
GOSH is a brand that holds a special place in my heart. I wore them exclusively for most of the tenth grade, due to buying a bunch in Canterbury on my school trip to England. They evoke fond memories. Naturally, I buy GOSH whenever I get the chance. Today I'm reviewing their Trio Eyeshadow in Limelight. It's housed in a plastic compact, fairly simple.  There's a divider in the middle, but it's not raised any higher than the eyeshadows so it's kinda just for show. The consistency of the shadow is very powdery. (Direct sunlight) (Indirect natural light) Going clockwise from the top left- Shadow 1 is a light yellow-green satin, the colour of grasshopper pie (oh man, now I want some grasshopper pie.) Shadow 2 is a denim blue shimmer. It takes a bit of building to get it to look true to colour on the eyelids and it produces quite a bit of fallout. Shadow 3 is a light straw yellow with golden shimmer. Here they are all slapped...

March Guest Post: Natalie from Ivory Avenue goes Green!

Image
Hey guys! Natalie from Ivory Avenue is guest posting on my blog; check out her blog and enjoy the show! -~-~-~-~- Hi everyone! My name is Natalie and I blog over at Ivory Avenue . I'll be taking over Megan's blog today as part of the Canadian Beauty Bloggers monthly guest posting . The theme this month is green (for Saint Patrick's Day!), so I've decided to tell you all about my favourite green products: either green makeup, or beauty items in green packaging. I thought I would be spoiled for choice, but I have surprisingly few green makeup products. I really need to change that: I love wearing green eye makeup! Simple Kind To Skin Simple Facial Wipes ($9.99) I'm a sucker for wipes, and these are just lovely. They remove my eye makeup with ease and are just a pleasure to use.   The Face Shop Lovely ME:EX Pastel Cushion Blusher in Rose Cushion (~$9.00) By far one of the cutest blushes I own, this blush from The Face Shop is a favourite. It's a lovely ...

Megan Takes on the Trends: Toasted Almond

Image
I had so much fun with my Tangerine post that I decided to go dig through my stash for all of this spring's hottest hues. I decided now to go with what I thought would be the easiest, Toasted Almond. I was a little wrong. I could only find five vaguely Toasted Almond-looking shades in my collection! Guess that just goes to show you how many brights I wear. I've got a shadow from my Smashbox on the Rocks Luxe Palette, Totally Nude (the leftmost shade here!) Joe Fresh cream blush in Pecan, which is totally not Toasted Almond but the closest cheek colour I had to a brown. Plus I need an excuse to wear it more. Anna Sui Lip Rouge in 701. And Rimmel Colour Rush Balm in Drive me Nude.  Plus, the right highlight shade from my Too Faced Jingle All the Way phone palette (sick of seeing this baby yet?) Top to Bottom:  Totally Nude from the Smashbox On the Rocks Luxe Palette. Highlight #2 from the Too Faced Jingle All the Way Phone Palette. ...

Review: NYX Shadow Singles in Autumn Sky and Lime Juice

Image
I'm a sucker for colourful eyeshadow, and today I have for you NYX eyeshadow singles in Autumn Sky and Lime Juice. (L-R) Autumn Sky, Lime Juice (L-R) Autumn Sky, Lime Juice They come housed in itty bitty plastic compacts. Very simple, I like it. However, they don't stack one on top of the other because of their rounded tops, which can be a bit of a pain if you store your makeup on top of a vanity. The texture of the shadows is extremely soft. So soft. I've shattered many a NYX shadow single before with small drops or clangs, and these are the two that have survived. (L-R) Autumn Sky, Lime Juice Autumn Sky is a glistening pale seafoam with silver shimmer. Lime Juice is a bright yellow-green, the colour of dead grass if you turned up the saturation. It also has silver shimmer. Because the shadows are so soft, they blend together beautifully but are hard to build up to a very intense pigment. The effect is more of a watercolour than gouache, if you get...

Megan Takes on the Trends: Tangerine

Image
Earlier I posted what colours are on trend for this season of Spring 2015, and now I've decided that I'm going to shop my stash for those colours to see what I already have! Here are my picks for Tangerine. They're not exactly "Tangerine", all of them, but they're all orangey and evoke the same feeling. I've got one eye product, two cheek products and one lip product (I would have included Wet N Wild's 24 Carrot Gold but I forgot it at my mom's house!) Maybelline Colour Tattoo in Fierce & Tangy Joe Fresh Mousse Blush in Melon Joe Fresh Colour-Changing Blush in Coral And Maybelline ColorSensational Vivids Lipstick in Electric Orange. (Top to Bottom) Fierce & Tangy, Melon, Coral, Electric Orange (Top to Bottom) Fierce &Tangy, Melon, Coral, Electric Orange And then I decided to slap them all on my face at the same time for the ultimate tangerine look! I created a wing using a small conceal...
